Just last week a research crew aboard CSIRO's RV Investigator observed one of Australia's only active volcanoes go off. The footage was anticlimactic, albeit, but it was a great story. I wrote up the article, here.
A few days later I was contacted to talk on 2ser breakfast. It was pretty scary, especially the questions, which I wasn't too knowledgeable about... Nonetheless, it's out there. You can listen to it here, in fact.
